Tamás Bátor
was born in Budapest and graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, in his native town. He completed his music studies in the Opera Studio of the Scala in Milan as the disciple of Giulietta Simionato and M. Luciano Silvestri. 

After his debut as a soloist in the Hungarian State Opera in 1986 he has performed in many theatres like La Scala in Milan, Ludwigsburg Festival, Barcelona, Rome, Bologna, Lausanne, Bern, Rostock, Modena, Prague, Nuremberg, Madrid, Dublin, Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima, Portland, Baltimore, New Opera in Tel Aviv, Stuttgart, Monte Carlo, Marseilles, Cluj-Napoca etc. and appeared in festivals like Flanders Festival in Antwerp and in Brussels, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Boden See Festival, the Budapest Spring and Autumn Festivals, EXPO 2000 in Hannover, Salzburger Festspiele, Montpelier Festival and many other theatres and festivals all over the World.

Being the member of soloist ensembles in State Theatre in Luzern and in St. Gallen, in the Deutsche Nationaltheater in Weimar and in the Hungarian State Opera he has sung the main deep bass roles of operas by classical Russian and West-European composers. Most notable of them are Titurel (Parsifal), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Basilio (Il Barbier di Siviglia), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Rodolfo (La Sonnambula), Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro), Leporello and Il comendatore (Don Giovanni), Seneca (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Ferrando (Il Trovatore), Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Oroveso (Norma), Duke Bluebeard (Bartók), Guardian (Le forza del destino), Ramphis (Aida), Baldassarre (La Favorita), Rocco (Fidelio), Pimen (Boris Godunov), Mephisto (Faust), Landgraf (Tannhäuser) and Mephistopheles (Boito). He was the soloist of several significant oratorios from Bach to Arvo Pärt.

He has done several CD and radio recordings: Magnificat (Caldara Sammartini and Albinoni), André Chenier and La Gioconda for „CBS” conducted by G. Patane, Guntram by Richard Strauss and Macbeth by Verdi conducted by L.Gardelli.

In 2003-2011 he was the Management Director of the “Bartók +…” International Opera Festival in Miskolc and in years 2006-2011 he was the Artistic Advisor of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra. He is the Artistic Advisor in the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest since 2007 and the Program Director of Co-production at the Müpa Budapest since 2011.
