The 3rd Klaudia Taev International Competition for Young Opera Singers took place in 
May 26 - 30, 2003.
The 24 participants came from 13 countries: Finland, Germany, Holland, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, Ukraine and Estonia.

The presidential couple of the Republic of Estonia (Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Rüütel) took the Competition under their patronage.

As a part of the Competition the opera production of Rigoletto by G. Verdi was staged in Theatre Endla with the winner of the 2nd Klaudia Taev Competition Anna Samuil (Russia) performing the role of Gilda.

Erki Pehk (Estonia) – Artistic Director of the Competition, Conductor at the Estonian National Opera
Galina Pisarenko (Russia) - Prof. at Moscow State Conservatory, Russia
Irma Rewell (Finland) - Chairman of the Finnish Opera Union, Finland
Urve Tauts (Estonia) – Soloist of Estonian National Opera, Disciple of Klaudia Taev, Vocal teacher of Estonian Academy of Music

1st and 2nd prize were presented by the 21st Century Orchestra, 3rd prize was sponsored by Statoil Estonia.
